Poster for Fol Cinema “Notes in Origin-Köken İçersinde Notlar”.
Canadian cinema, with some exceptions, remains mostly ignored in the history of experimental film, despite hosting a wealth of artists, scenes, and respectable institutions throughout the country. This screening aims to remedy this exclusion by showcasing a very small selection of Canadian works from artists working in a variety of cities and contexts. Taking its title and theme from Ellie Epp’s quintessential notes in origin (1987), this program is inspired by, echoes, and takes off from the 10 segment structure in Epp’s film with 10 films by voices past and present. This collection of notes, visions, and essays form paths leading from and to beginnings—our sight, our names, ourselves.
